Stave West Recreation Area Signage & Wayfinding
Spring 2020

Background

Centrally located in the Fraser Valley, Stave West is close to a large and growing population. As the first unregulated public access to Crown Land east of Metro Vancouver, it is a highly-used recreation area.

Unfortunately, the growing popularity of Stave West, together with unregulated access has resulted in public misuse issues. These problems with misuse and safety concerns have damaged the reputation of Stave West.

Our team was tasked with creating a range of signage and way-finding to be used in the area to draw in new patrons, and give more insight to these users to the importance of the land and its protection.

Objective

Inspiring visitors in the area to respect the land and prevent them from leaving a human footprint in the area. Transforming the area to a more interactive, accessible and all-inclusive community based environment. Incorporating indigenous and land history while maintaining a positive and light tone throughout the project.

Audience

The target audience and market for this project is mainly families, friends, or acquaintances. People coming together, creating memories, and telling stories, who are visiting Stave West to explore a story that is beyond the panels. These groups include families camping, ATV users and other motorized vehicles coming for day use, boaters coming to take advantage of the lake, and weekend sightseers passing through the area.
